Indonesia adopts waste management best practices from Denmark

As part of a Danish-Indonesian cooperation initiative addressing circular economy and waste management, government officials from Indonesia’s key environmental agencies participated in peer-to-peer training on environmental management in Denmark. The course introduced Indonesian participants to the Extended Producer Responsibility concept, an approach that attributes financial and physical responsibility to producers for the treatment and disposal of post-consumer products. As part of the  event, which also provided an opportunity  for increased international networking, Indonesian government representatives committed to applying their new knowledge to improve the country’s regulatory framework for waste management.

The course was very useful as it was closely related to my daily work as a government employee dealing with solid waste management. The Danish experience in developing its waste system inspires me in the implementation of my work.
