Advancing Indonesia’s low-carbon transition

As part of capacity building and knowledge transfer in energy planning, energy efficiency and renewable energy integration between Denmark and Indonesia, the Danida Fellowship Centre facilitated a series of training courses on energy planning and modelling for Indonesian partners in Denmark. The inter-agency cooperation resulted in the joint publication of the Regional Energy Outlook 2019, which identifies least cost scenarios for renewable energy production in four Indonesian provinces. Implementing action towards these scenarios will be critical to achieving Indonesia’s ambitious renewable energy targets, which specify that renewables should make up 23 percent of the energy mix by 2025 and 31 percent by 2050.

Through the training courses in Denmark our Indonesian partners have been able to cooperate in the development of energy scenarios for four provinces. The new knowledge and modelling ability has led to the conclusion that provincial energy plans containing a larger share of renewable energy would be the least cost option.
